Auditions at The Haven, Birmingham

Auditions were held at the Haven community centre, 54, Rilstone Rd, Birmingham, a charity set up to help people of all ages find focus. A special thanks from all at Savannah Studios to everyone involved in running The Haven – a great bunch of people willing to help anyone in need.
It was a busy day had by all. We had an hour to set up for the full screen test and the first person through the door was Val Monk. An early favourite for the part she sailed through the audition and set a very high bar for all that followed.

We had a steady stream of people turning up with a huge (typical) rush around dinner time. Although we did manage to get some food down us in the end, some delicious chilli beef and rice cooked by my lovely girlfriend and partner of fifteen years, Michelle Terry. Went down a treat.

We finished the day around five after seeing twenty-two people. Which is amazing for a short in the West Midlands. It was a long day but worth it to meet the up-and-coming talent that Birmingham has to offer. We were disappointed that not everyone could make it but we did have some video auditions too. Unfortunately, the video auditions aren’t any real replacement for the face-to-face meeting so those people were at a clear disadvantage. I think we can all learn something from that.

It took a few days, but the whole team were eventually unanimous in our decisions and the four actors were selected. Many more were invited along as extras as we’d really like to maintain a good relationship with all the talent Birmingham has to offer. There’s a lot more to come from us yet.
